Art Specifications

Here at USBs Direct we take a lot of pride in the final product.  We want your usbs to look fantastic!  We want your usbs to be the envy of your competitors and leave a lasting impression on those that receive them.

To have your usbs looking their best we have to have the correct artwork.

Our preference is for a vectorised .eps file.  The result is a crisp, clear graphic which is perfect for pad printing, screen printing and laser engraving.

Vectorised Artwork

(.eps, .ai or correl draw files)
This is an electronic file that uses a mathematical equation to describe the geometric shapes and dimensions of your logo or artwork.  They are created in either Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw and have the benefit of being able to be scaled to any size without distortion.  We can also easily manipulate these files to a single colour or multiple colour design without having to recreate the graphic.  Most logos that have been created for business cards, letterheads, school crests etc can be supplied as a .eps file.  Your Graphic Department or printer should be able to supply these.  Please just remember to make sure all text is converted to curves/outlines before you send it through.

JPEG(.jpg) Files

JPG is a widely supported file format for saving images with many colours, usually photographs and designs with shading and gradients. High resolution jpgs can be used for some digital prints onto usbs, however we would need to have a look at the design and make sure it will reproduce well for the best result.

PDF Files

A PDF  (Portable Document Format) is a file format created by Adobe Systems for representing graphics and documents in a manner independent of the application software, hardware, and operating system. Each PDF file encapsulates a complete description of a document that includes the text, fonts, images, and vector graphics.  Some pdfs contain the full vector artwork that we can extract and use for printing.

Doc Files and Text Files

Unfortunately these can not be used.  The graphics contained in these files would need to be recreated as a vector file.  Speak to our sales staff about having the Graphic Design Department recreate the design for you.  Prices vary depending on the complexity of the design and the time it would take to create.

PMS Colours

PMS (Pantone Matching System) is a standard language for colour identification and communication. When you say to the printer, “I want you to print a pink 1767C”, you can be sure he knows which colour you mean.  Most graphics will have been created using specific PMS colours, which we will use when printing your usbs.  If you can not supply the relevant PMS colours for your logo we can match them as close as possible to the CMYK values for you.

4 Color Digital Print

All colour graphics can be broken down into four colour values called CMYK values. CMYK stands for cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (or black). These are the four colours of ink used in the traditional method of printing hardcopies of images, called offset printing. The three colours, plus black, roughly correspond to the primary colours, from which can be mixed hundreds of colours across the visible spectrum.

Depending on the graphic and the usb you have chosen we can produce full colour logos with shading and gradients using this method.

Laser Engraving

Laser Engraving uses a high-energy light beam that vaporizes the metal casing leaving your logo or design permanently behind.  With laser engraving it is possible to produce quite a subtle look for your design.  If you are after this kind of result we can reproduce your logo so that it is a few shades lighter or darker (depending on the metal casing of your chosen usb) however this method of embellishment can only be used for metal casings.

Choosing the right embellishing style

Often the different choices that are available when it comes to putting your logo on a usb can be quite confusing.  Choosing the right colour combination and style of embellishing is very important in producing the best result possible.

That’s why we will always offer our advice.  Light print colours on light usb casings, or  silver casings, generally don’t reproduce well.  Similarly dark colours on dark casings have the same result.   We will also supply you with a photo of the production sample so you can have a look at what the final product will look like before we go ahead with mass production.  This has saved more than a few jobs over the years!
